Welcome to the website of the Whilton and Buckby Locks Association (WBLA). This site will tell you all about the association, its aims, benefits of membership and details of walks in the area.
AIMS
The objectives of the association are as follows:
- To promote the facilities of the Whilton and Buckby flight of locks on the Grand Union Canal in Northamptonshire.
- To attract visitors to the flight.
- To carry out environmental improvements to the flight.
- To protect the flight and its amenities.
- To liaise with all the relevant waterways-related organisations for the purpose of achieving the above objectives.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to anyone interested in the flight and who supports the objectives of the association. The membership fee is £6 and runs from July for 12 months.
Benefits for members include:
- Regular monthly meetings with interesting speakers.
- Three organised theatre trips each year.
- Two day-long outings each year.
- Annual picnic cruise.
- Christmas party.
Benefits to the community include:
- Development and promotion of WBLA Heritage Walks taking in the lock flight.
- Introduction of an ART TRAIL to the flight.
- Maintenance of the garden and nature reserve by lock 12 and the nature reserve by lock 8.
- Introduction of signage on history, wildlife and architecture.
